Recipe ingredients I used.

You only need a few simple ingredients to make these salmon cakes. I used canned pink salmon, mayonnaise, fresh lemon, fresh jalapenos, egg and green onion. I also used a combination of butter and olive oil to fry these.

FYI it’s much easier to use canned salmon without the bones and skin. But today that is all I had so you just have to be careful to get all that stuff out before you mix it with the other ingredients.

Of course you can use fresh salmon but it would be much easier if you cook the raw salmon first. You can also use leftover salmon from another meal.

Also I didn’t use bread crumbs to keep the carbs down and to keep it gluten free but the bread crumbs might make them a bit more sturdy.

If you really wanted to you can add bit of almond flour or crushed pork rinds to the mixture. But in my opinion it takes away from the flavor.

Don’t skip the fresh jalapeños!

I really enjoy the amazing flavor of fresh green peppers whether they are hot or not. They add a fresh green flavor. Don’t worry about the heat from them as you can easily control that.

You can easily decrease the heat of fresh jalapenos by cutting out the ribs and clearing out the seeds. If you like the heat keep the ribs in .

And if you don’t have jalapeños you can just use green or red bell pepper. But if you can try the jalapeños!

How to make these easy keto salmon patties.

Step 1: Add the canned salmon to a medium bowl and if it has bones and skin, go through it with your hands and take them all out. If you buy canned salmon that doesn’t you are ahead of the game!

Step 2: Mince the jalapeno pepper and green onions into very finely chopped pieces. If you don’t want any heat from the jalapeno make sure to clean out the ribs and the seeds. If you want a bit of heat keep the ribs in. Add these vegetables to the mixing bowl.

Step 3: Add the beaten egg, mayonnaise, lemon juice and zest and mix with the salmon well to combine.

Step 5: Cook for about 4 minutes then flip patties and do the other side for another 4 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of your patties. Let cool and serve with an extra lemon wedge.

If you want to use some sauces with these (though I don’t think they need them) you can try this lemon dijon cream sauce or this creamy sriracha sauce.

Store left overs in an airtight container. Just reheat them in the microwave or quickly pan fry to heat up. (Please scroll down to view the printable recipe card.)

Tool for the perfect salmon cakes.

I bought some of these metal rings to make ice cream sandwiches and they came in handy for these cakes! They made them nice and uniform and easy for flipping. You can use this simple kitchen tool for crab cakes, mini desserts, even smaller sized hamburgers.

You can also eat this as a salad.

This would be tasty as a salmon salad too all you need to do is eliminate the egg. The lemon zest really brings some brightness to thedish. I’m a big fan of using zest in my dishes as it adds lots of flavor and little calories.

Keto side dishes to serve with these.

To be honest I ate these low carb salmon patties for lunch during lent with nothing else but if you wanted to eat them for an easy dinner, just add a green salad.

If you want something more substantial to make this a meal you can try this roasted cauliflower mash or maybe this mushroom and brie cauliflower risotto.
