Place a layer of breaded avocado fries in the basket in the air fryer. Spray the avocado with avocado oil or olive oil. Turn air fryer to 400 degrees and air fryer avocado fries for 6 minutes. Flip and continue to air fry for an additional 6 minutes. Once done, remove the fries from the basket and repeat with other breaded avocado slices.
How To Select the Perfect Avocado
Trying to find a perfectly ripe avocado can be a little tricky but here are some tips to help you find the perfect one.
First, look for an avocado that is in between green in color (under ripe) and black coloring (over ripe). A perfectly ripe avocado usually is greenish, blackish in color.
Next, pick up the avocado and give a gentle squeeze. You are looking for one that is firm but still has a little bit of give to it. It shouldn’t be rock hard because that indicated that it is probably not ripe. If the avocado is too squishy, then it is most likely brown inside.
Lastly, you can often tell if an avocado is ripe by peeling off the stem. If underneath the stem, it is bright green in color, then the avocado is ready to eat. If the flesh under the stem is brown, the it is most likely over ripe and probably has patches of brown on the inside. This is a very sad situation.
Recommended Air Fryer
Air fryers work by circulating the air around the entire avocado, so every angle is getting bake and fried.
They do a wonderful job of crisping up the exterior batter up while maintaining a juicy interior and without over drying the avocado.
The breading of an avocado fry gets crispy and crunchy while when then are fried in the air fryer and without using any excess oil. I recommend spraying a thin layer of avocado or olive oil on the breaded avocado fries before air frying to achieve a perfectly crispy, juicy breaded layer on the outside of the sliced avocado.
Any brand of air fryer will work for this recipe. The air fryer I use is by Philip’s.
Keto Breading for Making Fries
These avocado fries have the best crispy breading surrounding them. To make a keto breading for avocado fries, we use a combination of almond flour and pork panko. The pork panko helps to get the breading layer extra crispy once cooked in the air fryer. Using pork panko and almond flour to bread the avocado fry makes this dish a gluten free option too!
If you don’t want to purchase the pre-ground pork rinds, you can grind up your own by placing them in a food processor or blender to blend down into ground pork rinds.
What to Serve with Avocado Fries
I love serving avocado fries along side a bunless burger. It reminds me of eating at a burger joint. Here are some more recipes that pair well with Keto avocado fries:
- Pulled pork sandwiches
- Keto chicken schnitzel
- Sous vide steak
- Air fryer keto chicken strips
- Keto corn dogs
- BBQ sauce
Reheating Avocado Fries in the Air Fryer
Not that you should have any leftovers because these low carb avocado fries are so good! But, in the rare occasion that you do have leftover fried avocados, you can store them in a container wrapped in aluminum foil in the refrigerator. This will turn the breading soft; however, you can crisp up the keto breading in the air fryer.
To reheat avocado fries in the air fryer, place the fries back onto the air fryer basket and cook at 400 degrees for 3 to 4 minutes or until crispy and heated through.
